Ski Resorts Near Fort Collins

The ski resorts near Fort Collins offer something for everyone, from family-friendly slopes to challenging black diamonds. Some of the state’s most popular ski destinations are within a few hours’ drive from Bloom.

  • Eldora Mountain Resort (1.5 hours): Perfect for a day trip, Eldora is the nearest resort to Bloom and offers abundant groomed terrain in a compact setting. Its smaller size makes it a great resort for families, because kids won’t get whiney carrying their skis for too long, but it also offers some exciting groomed trails and backcountry experiences for more advanced skiers and boarders. 
  • Breckenridge (2 hours 15 minutes): With five distinctive peaks and a charming resort town, Breckenridge offers something for everyone. Whether you’re skiing or exploring the lifestyle-centered downtown, this mountain destination is perfect for a quick getaway.
  • Keystone (2 hours 15 minutes): Known for its laid-back yet sport-focused atmosphere, Keystone features long runs and fewer crowds. This resort is ideal for those seeking a no-frills skiing experience while still enjoying some of the best powder in Colorado.
  • Winter Park Resort (2 hours 15 minutes): Another family-friendly winter resort, Winter Park boasts beautiful groomed runs, mogul-filled black diamonds, and a vibrant après-ski scene. There are also snowshoeing and gondola experiences if you have non-skiers in your crowd.
  • Steamboat Springs (3 hours 15 minutes): It’s a bit further afield, but most skiers and riders would say that Steamboat is worth the trip. Famous for its “champagne powder,” the resort offers an exceptional skiing experience, a lively downtown scene, and neary hot springs to nourish your sore muscles after a day of carving. 

Winter Adventures Closer to Bloom

Skiing and snowboarding are delightful and popular pastimes in this region of Colorado, but they aren’t the only way to get outside and enjoy the magic of winter. If you want to skip the resorts, there are other active ways to immerse yourself in the season.

Snowshoeing and cross-country skiing trails abound in the region and offer a more serene, quiet experience than the downhill ski resorts. Explore scenic trails at Horsetooth Mountain Open Space (30 minutes from Bloom) or Lory State Park (25 minutes), both with miles and miles of trails that are open year-round. Another great option for snowshoeing and cross country is Blue Lake, about a 25 minute drive up the beautiful Poudre Canyon. All of these areas will provide breathtaking views of snowy landscapes and are ideal for peaceful winter treks.

Ice skating is another charming, family-friendly way to spend an afternoon. Head to Old Town Fort Collins and visit the outdoor ice skating rink under twinkling lights. Warm up afterward with a cup of hot cocoa from a nearby café.

Visit Hot Springs for Winter Relaxation

After a day of winter fun, there’s nothing better than soaking in natural hot springs, and the area’s hot springs can be an adventure all their own. While Fort Collins doesn’t have hot springs within the city, several are within driving distance.

  • Raspberry Hot Springs (1 hours 45 minutes): Located in Idaho Springs, this reservation-only hot springs offers a rustic, natural soaking experience. Its secluded location makes it a favorite for those seeking tranquility, but you’ll need AWD and some advance planning to get here. 
  • Hot Sulphur Springs Resort & Spa (3 hours): Featuring multiple pools of varying temperatures, this resort is a more polished option, perfect for a day trip. The facility also offers spa treatments. 
  • Strawberry Park Hot Springs (3.5 hours): Near Steamboat Springs, this iconic spot combines natural beauty with ultimate relaxation. Clothing is optional after dark, so minors are only permitted during the day. The unique stone pools are especially picturesque when surrounded by snow.
